On page #88 of Making Comics, McCloud discusses the importance of facial expression variation, likening them unto a language in their own right. Having read Chabuté's Tout Seul without using Kevin's painstakingly crafted and expertly calligraphied translations, I found myself pouring over each face, looking for any hint of emotion that might indicate what was happening. On page 184 of Tout Seul a particular emotion, gleaned only from reading the facial expressions, sprang to mind. Despondent. Boom.
